Sleep, like nutrition and physical activity, is important for good health. Adults should aim for 7 or more hours of sleep per night.  Lots of things, like a person’s age, work schedule, and sleep patterns, affect the ideal sleep time.

People who don’t get enough sleep can have health problems like high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, obesity, and depression.

Tips for Better Sleep:

To have better sleep, go to bed at the same time each night and get up at the same time each morning, including on the weekends.

  • Make sure your bedroom is quiet, dark, relaxing, and at a comfortable temperature.
  • Remove TVs, computers, and smart phones from the bedroom.
  • Avoid large meals, caffeine, and alcohol before bed.
  • Get some exercise. Being physically active during the day can help you fall asleep more easily at night.

Many people have trouble sleeping and it can lead to other problems like accidents, health issues, and bad moods. Snoring or feeling very sleepy during the day can be signs of a sleep disorder. If you have trouble sleeping or are worried about your sleep, talk to your doctor. They can help you get the good sleep you need.
