If you’re managing diabetes and hypertension, and maybe trying to lose weight, eating at restaurants can be tricky!
Here are some quick tips to help you navigate any restaurant. Make sure to save this to your favorites to have a quick reference in your Dario app.
- Ask that your food be prepared without added salt, MSG or salt-containing ingredients.
- Be alert for ingredients, cooking styles and labels that suggest an item may be high in salt. i.e., watch out for foods that are pickled, cured or smoked, or dishes that contain soy sauce or broth.
- Don’t use the saltshaker.
- Split dessert with someone else.
- Take half your portion, right when it comes to the table and put it in a to-go box.
- Make sure you have your meds on hand (diabetes).
- Limit condiments that are high in salt, such as mustard, ketchup, pickles and sauces.
- Opt for fruits and vegetables instead of salty appetizers.
